It greets people at the door, it can leave a lasting impression, and it ages if not taking care of properly. That’s why your face deserves all the attention you can give it.

I’m there with you – you’re running out the door, trying to get to work on time, and dropping the kids off at school before the tardy bell rings. It can be extremely hectic in the morning to get your crap together.

But it’s so important to dedicate more time to your facial treatment to fight the effects of anti-aging and sun damage.

Here’ my top tips to help you achieve a more youthful you. You’re welcome, face.

Your New Facial Treatment

Lather with Kindness

Be gentle. It can be tempting to want to scrub and scrub to get rid of oil and unclog your pores, but you’re actually doing more harm than good. Your facial skin is very sensitive, so it’s best to use a gentle face wash that removes toxins, cleanses, and exfoliates with kindness, as I like to say.

Personally, I use Perfectly Posh’s BFF face wash (Disclaimer: I’m a Perfectly Posh independent consultant). It’s one of my favorite products of their facial line because the peppermint oil rejuvenates your skin and it’s gentle enough to use daily without drying out your skin.

Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!

Moisturizing your skin with a facial lotion every day helps prevent wrinkles and dry, lackluster skin. While face washes tend to rid oil, moisturizers add-in the necessary ingredients to hydrate your skin. If you’re prone to acne, pick one that’s oil and fragrance-free to avoid irritating your acne more.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

You’ve heard it a million times, and now you’re about to hear it one million and 1 times – Use sunscreen! Apply SPF 30 or higher on your face, ears, and neck twice a day. Sunscreen is essential in guarding your skin from sun exposure and its effects. Too much sun will age you faster and suck out all your youthfulness (it’s not a pretty picture).

Detox is a Must

Stress caused by I don’t know – work, kids, life, all of the above can do some major work on your skin. Let it and your sanity breathe by taking 5-10 minutes weekly or biweekly to unwind with a facial mask that will unclog those pores. Just apply and lay down in bed or in a warm bath. Everyone deserves a little “you” time!

Deal with Those Dry Spots

We all have them – that one irritated, dry spot on your skin that will not go away, no matter how much lotion you dose on it. It should be a studied in a science lab for how hard you’ve tried to make it vanish. Try a healing stick on your problem areas and make them disappear once and for all.

Watch Your Diet

Food, which I love, can actually play a nasty trick on your skin! Some foods can make your acne flare or cause dryness. Keep your fork away from these eats:

  • Sugar – It’s not that sweet on your complexion when eaten (includes breads, cookies, soda, etc.)
  • Dairy – It hasn’t been scientifically proven, but people who have cut this ingredient out have seen improvements

So what do you eat? Stick to almonds, salmon, tuna, and halibut that help your complexion shine.

Hydrate – Your Skin is Thirsty

Water does a skin good. Drink 6 or more cups of water daily to help keep your facial skin hydrated and glowing. Even spraying a little mineral water directly onto your face will keep it supple, according to this dermatologist. Just don’t forget to apply sunscreen after!

Work to Get that Glow

Sweat dripping down your forehead might sound like a disservice to your complexion, but actually working out helps remove toxins, de-stress, and gives you a natural glow. For example, yoga is great for increasing circulation around your facial muscles.
